Shay's House

Reducing Homelessness, Recidivism, HIV/AIDS, Hunger, Alcohol/Substance Abuse & Domestic  Violence
Shay's House honors the memory of
Shatara Janae Dawkins, fondly known as
Shay- Shay, who passed away from Cancer
at the age of nine while her mother was in
prison. Shay's mother grew a passion for
mothers, and all women that were in need of
a new start, that if given a chance things
could be different and recidivism can be
reduced. While dealing with the lost of her
child, Shay's mother began her mission
because she saw women kept returning to
prison and not staying free, she would ask

to the repeat offenders that returned doing
her stay in prison
"why are you back here" .
The answer was always one of the same. "I
had no where to go, homeless", "my
addiction", "I have HIV, I now have no one",
and "I ran away from my abuser". Stop
Turning Entering Prison aka Shay's House
was born. This re-entry program's aim is to
help and encourage women by giving them
tools to build a solid foundation and become
a productive citizen back in the communities.
